Aims & Objectives of the Organization:
Tourism & Culture (Culture) Department look into the following subject in the Union.
1. Archaeology.

2. Archives.
3. Museum.
4. Development of Modern Indian Language.
5. Development of Arts like Dance, Drama, Music and Fine Arts etc...
6. Art Education.
7. Sangit Mahavidyalaya.
8. Students Excursion and other Excursion for educational purposes outside the State.
9. Culutral Excursions.
10. Other Cultural Schemes and Projects.
11. Financial Assistance to distinguished Artists and men of letters.
12. Sahitya Academy and of similar Literary & Cultural Bodies.
13. State Library and Public Libraries (except Libraries attached to Educational Institutions, Government Department and Offices).
14. Art and Crafts Colleges at Khaliikote & Bhubaneswar and S.V. Art & Crafts School at Jeypore.
15. Deputation of Cultural Troupes to different States and outside the Country.
16. Theatre and Drama performance.
Important Achievements of Culture Department from last five Years:
1. Under monthly Artist Pension Scheme the Department of Culture have been able to provide Artist Pension to about 1500 Artists including the spouces of the deceased Artists during the past five years. The rate of such pension has also been enhanced from Rs.5007- to Rs.1000/-P.M w.e.f. 1.4.2008.
2. In order to acquaint the younger generation with our past glory and ideology, statues of eminent personalities are being installed by the Culture Department , in various conspicuous places of the State During past five years about 13 nos. of statues of such personalities have been prepared and installed in different places of the State.
3. State Film Award - To encourage the Artists for their performance in the silver-screen, State film Award is organized by the Culture Department every year. By the end of the year-2008-09 the 20th State Film Award Function have been organized.
4. Rabindra Mandap the prestigious Auditorium of the Culture Deptt. in the heart of the capital has been renovated and opened to the public on dt. 8.3.2008 for facilitating various Cultural Programmes.
5. Progress under Finance Commission Award - About 366 monuments of the State have been preserved and protected with the grants received from the 11th Finance Commission. Further 12th Finance Commission have been pleased to provide Rupees 50 Crores in 4 phase i.e. from 2006-07 to 2009-10 (Rs. 1250.00 lakhs each year) for preservation and protection of heritage sites of the State and development of Tourism. The work is under Progress.
