Introduction

Introduction:-

          The Department has moved ahead in its mission, and has successfully implemented the schemes that were its mandate.

            In the handloom sector the number of weavers helped through the cluster approach has gone up.  More people have been given identity cards and helped by the health insurance and accident insurance schemes.  Technology up-gradation, construction of common facility centre, exposure visits, organistion of exhibitions, design interventions and publicity have infused new spirit in the clusters.  Sales of handloom products have been on an upswing, and new inroads are being made in penetrating the national and international markets.  The Indian institute of Handloom Technology was set up in Bargarh and has started functioning.

            The Sericulture sector has also shown improvement.  The micro project in Chandragiri has demonstrated the viability of taking up cluster bases Sericulture activities.  Technology up-gradation , exposure visits and training were carried out for farmers and private graineurs to improve productivity.  The raw silk production in tassar and eri has shown an upward trend.

            In the textile and apparel sector, advancement has been made in promotion of employment generation for the youth of Orissa.  The nodal ATDC at Bhubaneswar has been successfully conducting courses with nearly 100% placement.
