Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims & Objectives of the Organization :

    Jails is a reformatory institution. The  purpose is to confine and to confine and to reform the inmates who are undergoing sentences awarded by the Court of Laws.

2. Mission/Vision :

    The confine the inmates and to rectify them, also to maintain discipline amongst them. The change the inmates so that they can be involved in the mainstream of the society after their release.

3.History & Background of Its Establishment :

    During 1916 from pre-independence period this jail has been established.

4. Allocation Performed to Achieve the Mission :

    Management of Prisons, maintain  discipline amongst prisoners.

5.Duties Performed to Achieve the Mission :

    Prison administrative in all matter relating to  discipline, labour,  diet, treatment and welfare activities.

6. Details of Services Rendered :

    To confine the accused found guilty by the court of law. To engage the willing convicts in the Prison Labour. To feed them as per diet scale prescribed by the Government. Also to take welfare activities inside the jail such as organization of various cultural programmes  & Vocational training. The furlough, parole release proposal also premature release proposal those who have completed 14 years of imprisonment are also initiated. The legal aid facility is also extended to the prisoners those are financially weak.

    District Jail, Sundargarh situated adjacent to the Reserve Police,  Sundargarh.

9. Working Hours Both for Office & Public :

    24 hours service for jail staff & 10 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. with  half an hour lunch break for Mnisterial Staff also for public.

10. Grievance Redress Mechanism :

    Allowed to make interview under supervision official timing.
