Particulars of Organization,Functions and Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)]  

1. Aims & Objectives of the Organization:-

           The Department aims at promoting fishery potential of the State and increasing milk, egg and meat production through various means in addition to providing veterinary services to a large number of animal population. The objectives of the Department are as follows:-

      Fishery Sector:-

  • Creation of  more water bodies.
  • Maximizing utilization of brackish water resources.
  • Harnessing  marine resources.
  • Adopting modern technology for Pisciculture.
  • Improving professionalism through training / counseling.
  • Encouraging private sector to adopt scientific  farming.
  • Forming Cooperatives / Self Help Groups and expanding market potential.

      Animal Resource Development Sector :-

  • Improving  potential of local breeds.
  • Dissemination of new technology.
  • Better management of animal nutrition and health.
  • Increase productivity through genetic upgradation.
  • Strengthening preventive disease control mechanism.
  • Increasing  self-employment under both Fishery & ARD Sector.

2. Mission / Vision:-

     The Department look forward to double the fish production within five years and to increase export from 350 crore to 1000 crore within three years.

3. Brief History & Background for its Establishment:-

      The Fisheries & ARD Department came into Existence in 1991 after being bifurcated from the erstwhile Forest Fisheries & Animal Husbandry Department vide General Administration Department Resolution No.28038/Gen., dt.10.10.1990. The Directorate of Fishery has been Functioning since 1955 and the Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services has been functioning since 1936.

RTI Central Monitoring Mechanism(CMM) named as "Loka Soochana" is a Central Monitoring Mechanism by Govt. of Orissa to ensure the implementation of Right To Information for all public authorities related to Govt. of Orissa. This is developed with an objective to provide single point access of all RTI related information catering to section 4[1][b], section 25 of RTI ACT, 2005 in an uniform manner. This project is monitored by Department of Information & Public Relations,Govt. of Orissa [Nodal Department of Govt. of Orissa for RTI Implementation] in collaboration with Luminous Infoways.
